The Standard Material Transfer Agreement

The text of the SMTA is fixed and must not be changed, except for the "wrapping" that defines the provider (article 1.2), the recipient (article 1.2), the method of acceptance (article 10), and the germplasm being transferred (Annex 1).

An incoming template is provided for sending germplasm to IRRI under the SMTA. It contains the version of article 10 preferred by IRRI, and in annex 1 it includes a blank table containing the minimum data we would need for each seed packet you send in order to process it correctly. Note that SMTA requires you to send "All available passport data and, subject to applicable law, any other associated available non-confidential descriptive information" with or through annex 1; so the template table provided is not complete - it specifies only the minimum.

An outgoing template is also provided for obtaining germplasm from IRRI under the SMTA. It is essentially identical to the above template, except IRRI is named in section 1.2 as the provider rather than the recipient. We will continue our current practice of asking you to agree to this MTA in writing (e.g. by email) before we send you seed.
